Climate Change in the Adirondacks...
Welcome to the homepage for the Adirondack case study of the Consortium for Atlantic Regional Assessment (CARA). The CARA case studies offer glimpses into particular circumstances of local places in the CARA region.
The Adirondack case study focuses on the Adirondack Park and surrounding region of Northern New York. Because this is a non-coastal, northern, and largely forested region with relatively low population density, it is significantly different from the other CARA case study regions and offers an opportunity to examine slightly different issues.
Adirondack area residents and concerned citizens have been discussing local impacts of climate change and the consequences of changes in climate and land use for many years. In a series of recent meetings and conferences, stakeholders identified a number of key concerns that they feel are critical considerations in thinking about the impacts of climate and land use change in the Adirondacks.
These concerns include:
winter economy
water resources and water quality
ecological consequences
changes in forest cover
The Adirondacks are part of the region that was explored in the New England Regional Assessment
, so this case study builds on that work as well as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Assessment![]()
