About CARA:
Changes in land use and climate can affect quality of life where people live, work, and play. This Consortium builds on earlier research of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Assessment (Preparing for a Changing Climate: The Potential Consequences of Climate Variability and Change. Mid-Atlantic Foundations pdf
, Metropolitan East Coast Assessment, New England Regional Assessment, and Boston Area Assessment) showing that impacts from climate change often amplify impacts from changing land use.
Planning ahead can help us take advantage of beneficial impacts and moderate negative ones. To make planning easier, four universities, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and public and private stakeholders are collaborating through CARA (Consortium for Atlantic Regional Assessment) to provide resources that decision makers in the mid- and upper-Atlantic region can use for:
- Understanding current and future vulnerability to changes in land use and climate, and
- Developing and evaluating adaptation options.
